The Monolingual SLP in a Multilingual World: Culturally Competent and Responsive Interventions for Multilingual Students (SC10)

This session will review preferred practices for monolingual SLPs providing intervention for students for are multilingual, especially those who are highly unintelligible. The speaker will discuss current intervention trends, including shared versus unshared sounds; a pattern-oriented approach for bilingual Spanish-English children; and models for pattern-oriented approaches from speakers of several other languages. The speaker will also share strategies monolingual SLPs can use when working with multilingual families.

This session can count toward the ASHA certification maintenance professional development requirement for DEI.
