SLPs who work in schools play a critical role in distinguishing language differences from language disorders. SLPs also have specialized training and skills to assist them with understanding the varying dimensions of cultural and linguistic diversity of their students. This session will provide strategies for how to share this knowledge with other educational stakeholders and how to promote a more equitable educational experience for students.

This session can count toward the ASHA certification maintenance professional development requirement for DEI.

After completing this session, you will be able to:
  • explain three ways to address equity when having direct interactions with students
  • describe three strategies to make the classroom/school environment more equitable
  • list three new inclusive language phrases that were previously unfamiliar to you
