Cognitive neuroscience has identified future-oriented thinking as a crucial ingredient of goal attainment and goal-directed persistence. This session will explore the executive function skills—including goal setting, planning, delaying gratification, and prospective memory skills—SLPs can help children develop to combat uncertainty, reduce anxiety, and bring the future into focus. The presenter will discuss evidence-based strategies to help children mentally explore the future, visualize the possibilities, and realistically plan for the future.
